Rangers fans react on Twitter to Scott Arfield’s display

Rangers may have won eight of their last 11 games, but some members of Steven Gerrard’s squad have struggled to produce their best form and stave off criticism from the supporters.

Scott Arfield has not been at his best this season. Steven Gerrard confirmed this week, in comments reported by the Daily Record, that the Canada international has had some problems to deal with away from the pitch and suggested that that may have had an impact on his form.

But perhaps his latest performance suggests that Arfield is now ready to vindicate Gerrard’s faith in him this season.

Rangers have kept the pressure on Celtic by beating Hearts 5-0 at Ibrox on Sunday. He may not have got onto the scoresheet, but Arfield certainly impressed the large majority of Rangers fans on social media.

Some felt that the slight change of position made a big difference for Arfield. He was excellent alongside Steven Davis in the middle of the park. And it appears that most of the Ibrox faithful want him to stay there moving forward.

Rangers have some huge games coming up. They face Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday. They then face the Hoops in the Scottish League Cup final before completing their Europa League group-stage campaign against Young Boys.

And there is no question that Gerrard’s men stand a better chance of winning all three if they have an in-form Arfield in their ranks.

His performance against Hearts suggests that he is ready to get back to his best.
