Rangers fans react on Twitter to Matej Vydra’s stunning goal

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react as Matej Vydra scored a stunning winner in the Premier League this weekend after being linked with a move to Ibrox last month.

It appeared that the Gers may round off the January transfer window by landing Vydra on loan. STV reported on deadline day that Steven Gerrard’s men were hopeful of signing the Burnley man.

It was suggested in the report that Vydra was Rangers’s preferred striker option. STV also claimed that Lyndon Dykes and Florian Kamberi were also on their radar. Of course, it would be the latter who would ultimately join the Gers.

And Vydra has since displayed exactly why Rangers were looking at him. The Czech Republic international scored the winning goal on Saturday as the Clarets beat Southampton 2-1.

It was a superb goal from the forward. He produced some excellent skill to create some space on the edge of the box before unleashing a vicious volley into the back of the net.

It was Vydra’s first goal since September 2018. But it certainly provided a reminder as to why Burnley spent £11 million to sign him (fee reported by the Daily Mail).

And it appears to have left some Rangers fans ruing missing out on the 27-year-old in January.

The Gers have not had the best time since returning from the winter break. Gerrard’s men have won two and lost two of their last five league games. They are surely going to need a stunning run if they are going to catch Celtic this season.

It would be unfair to be critical of Kamberi. The January signing has only made two substitute appearances since arriving.

However, you could certainly understand why some Rangers fans may now feel that they would have been much better off with Vydra in their ranks.

Here is what some of the Rangers supporters made of Vydra’s goal on Saturday…
