Rangers fans react on Twitter to Glenn Middleton's Hampden heroics

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to laud Glenn Middleton after the Ibrox loanee changed the game in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Middleton has taken a little time to make an impact since leaving the Gers in January. Remarkably, he is still awaiting the chance to make his first league start for St Johnstone.

He scored the winner against Hibernian in his last appearance. Nevertheless, that was not enough to earn him a starting spot at Hampden Park against St Mirren.

The 21-year-old did come on with 25 minutes remaining with the semi-final goalless. And he went on to produce an incredible cameo.

Middleton struck a vicious effort from some distance. The ball actually went in the back of the net quite centrally. However, former Gers teammate Jak Alnwick still got nowhere near the effort – with the pace seemingly deceiving the goalkeeper.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of Rangers fans took to social media to comment on the goal, as well as Middleton’s overall display.

The winger’s situation at Ibrox has always prompted a lot of debate over the years. He made 28 appearances in all competitions during Steven Gerrard’s first year in charge.

However, he has only played for the Light Blues once since then. And his various loan spells have had varying degrees of success.

With Rangers making huge progress since that first season, it looks a tall order for Middleton to really break into Gerrard’s plans. But those moments of magic like the one he produced on Sunday will do his chances of making the grade at Ibrox no harm at all.

With that in mind, here is how some of the Rangers fans reacted to Middleton’s Hampden heroics…
