Rangers have drawn Belgian side Royal Antwerp in the Europa League round of 32 with both legs set to be played in February – and Rangers supporters have reacted on Twitter to what many deem to be a decent draw for Steven Gerrard’s men.
Rangers earned their place in the knockout stages after somewhat surprisingly finishing top of their Europa League group – despite tricky trips to Poland and Belgium against Lech Poznan and Standard Liege and of course Portuguese outfit Benfica.
They earned 14 points from a possible 18, beating Poznan and Liege both home and away, while drawing with Benfica in Portugal and at Ibrox. That is despite boasting two-goal leads over Jorge Jesus’ side in both matches.
Now, Rangers have found they will face Antwerp – who progressed into the knockout stages after finishing second behind Tottenham Hotspur. Indeed, Antwerp even beat Tottenham in Belgium 1-0 – and pose a tricky test.
Antwerp, though, are struggling domestically. They sit in a lowly eighth place in the Belgian Jupiler League – winning only seven of their 16 league games. Certainly, the draw could have been a lot worse for Rangers and gives Gerrard’s men a real chance.
Rangers supporters have reacted on Twitter to the news they will face Antwerp in the round of 32, and with the Gers remaining unbeaten after 27 league and cup outings this season, many are confident with the draw.
