Rangers fans react as Steven Gerrard looks to raid Ibrox for Aston Villa bargain
Steven Gerrard is reportedly looking to raid Rangers for a £200,000 bargain in the form of Leon King – and Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter.
King, 17, broke into the senior Rangers side under new Aston Villa manager Gerrard during the Liverpool legend’s time north of the border.
A regular part of first-team training, King was also a mainstay of the B-team that plays in the Scottish Lowland League. He is out of contract in June.
That has alerted Gerrard. Rangers want to hand a new deal to King, a player Gerrard rates highly. But should he refuse a deal, he could go on the cheap.
Only a compensation fee of £200,000 will be required. Newcastle, Leicester and Manchester United are keen – but Villa are leading the way.
Rangers fans react as Villa, Newcastle and others want King…
The Birmingham Mail suggest Gerrard is looking to strike a bargain for King, who also has five appearances for Scotland’s Under-17 side.
Villa obviously have numerous options at centre-back in the senior side – Tyrone Mings, Kortney Hause, Ezri Konsa and Axel Tuanzebe.
But beyond that, they have little to offer. If King stars for the 23’s and trains with the senior side at Villa – then he has a chance of breaking in.
He would just need a couple of injuries to go his way at Villa Park, and he could easily become involved. Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter.
