Scott Arfield was handed just his second start of the 2020-21 season on Thursday night and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, shining for Rangers in their 5-0 win over Lincoln Red Imps – and Gers fans have reacted to his display.
Arfield, 31, has been used from the bench mostly this season – clocking up eight appearances in all competitions but six of which have been as a substitute. It was just his second start on Thursday, with his first coming in the 0-0 draw against Livingston.
Rangers kept up their stunning start to 2020-21 which has seen Steven Gerrard’s men win seven of their eight matches and are yet to concede. Alfredo Morelos scored twice, while Jermain Defoe, James Tavernier and Connor Goldson all netted.

Arfield was used in midfield alongside Glen Kamara, with Gerrard bringing in numerous fringe players to get the job done – including Greg Stewart, George Edmundson and Cedric Itten. Nathan Patterson also came on as a substitute.
It was a comprehensive win for the Gers on Thursday, and Arfield staked his claim for a more regular spot in Rangers’ starting eleven. Comfortable on the ball, Arfield connected the midfield to the attack and looked sharp.
Many Rangers fans discussed his performance on Twitter after the match, and the majority applauded the 19-time Canada international for his efforts in what was a second-round Europa League qualifying match.
