Scott Arfield could have been forgiven for wanting another crack at the Premier League amid reported interest from Crystal Palace and Southampton, but he will have delighted Rangers fans with his pre-Hibernian comments.
The Scottish Sun claimed in an exclusive that 30-year-old Arfield is being tracked by both Palace and Southampton after an excellent season under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.
The Canada captain has scored 11 goals – including a hat-trick against Motherwell last month – as well as laying on seven assists for his teammates. He is said to be valued at £3million.
Arfield has turned out for Burnley and Huddersfield in the Premier League. But when asked about a move down south, the former Falkirk star stated that he is happy at Ibrox.
“Over the last two years I haven’t played enough football. This is the happiest I have been in years playing here, wearing this badge and my family is settled here,” Arfield said, as quoted by Rangers’ official Twitter account.
Arfield is one of the first names on the team sheet, and has taken on the gauntlet of connecting the midfield to the Rangers attack – following Ovie Ejaria’s decision to end his season-long loan.
Rangers fans reacted to the news that Arfield is to ignore Premier League interest and remain in Glasgow. The majority are delighted, with a number of fans telling Arfield they “love” him.
