Rangers fans react as new signing Calvin Bassey scores on his debut

Rangers started building up their fitness for the new season yesterday as Steven Gerrard’s men took on Hamilton in a behind closed doors friendly at Auchenhowie.

The Scottish Premiership is due to return on August 1st whilst Rangers also have a Europa League clash on August 5th.

Getting some regular football for his Ibrox stars is now imperative for Rangers boss Gerrard if they are to have any chance of starting the 2020-21 season in form.

Rangers fans will be pleased to know that they won the game, with Alfredo Morelos scoring a penalty to secure a 2-1 victory.

But what might be even more exciting is the identity of Rangers first goalscorer.

Calvin Bassey headed home for Rangers, scoring on his debut for the club following a summer move from Leicester City.

Whilst signed as a left-back, injuries to Nikola Katic and Filip Helander saw Rangers boss Gerrard utilise Bassey at the heart of defence.

He performed well by all accounts and even notched a bullet header to give Rangers the lead early on.

The 20-year-old is already starting to impress at Rangers and plenty of fans on Twitter were happy to see the Ibrox newbie having such a memorable start to life at the club.

Hopefully, when the games get a little more serious, that form can continue.
