Rangers fans react as Matt Polster shines for Steven Gerrard’s side against Ross County

Rangers earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Ross County at Ibrox on Wednesday evening as Matt Polster continued to deputise for injured captain James Tavernier on the right side of the defence – and many Rangers fans have applauded the American.

Goals either side of the half-time whistle saw Rangers get back to winning ways, after Steven Gerrard’s side suffered defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday. Jermain Defoe and Scott Arfield got the goals, providing assists for eachother, too.

However, the match was overshadowed as Defoe was stretchered off with what appeared to be a muscle injury. The 37-year-old has been in good form with Alfredo Morelos suspended, and it is believed Steven Gerrard may now enter the market.

But Polster, 26, will have been delighted to get a start in what was only his seventh appearance for the club since joining Rangers last January. The one-time America international started and finished the 2-0 win.

It comes just weeks after Polster was linked with a Rangers exit after failing to break into the side. The Daily Record claimed this week, though, that the former Chicago Fire is now set to remain at Ibrox – which sees Rangers perform a u-turn.

Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter to the defender’s display on Twitter, with many even of the opinion that the American was man of the match during the league win – which sees Rangers remain five points behind Celtic, but with a game in hand.
