Matt Polster was handed his first start for Rangers by manager Steven Gerrard on Thursday night as the Gers eased to a 6-0 win in a Europa League qualifying clash against St. Joseph’s – and Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter.
Alfredo Morelos took his tally to four goals for the season already, with a hat-trick. It also saw the 23-year-old hothead pass 50 goals for the Light Blues, and fire his third treble since joining the club from HJK Helsinki.
Morelos found the back of the net three times after new signing Joe Aribo had put Rangers 1-0 up in the third minute. Polster notched an assist for Jermain Defoe, crossing from the right before the substitute flicked home.

Defoe got his second after coming on and Rangers’ sixth, with 86 minutes on the clock. A comprehensive victory that also saw new signings Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart and George Edmundson impress alongside Aribo.
Even Josh McPake was handed his senior debut by Steven Gerrard. But Polster will have been desperate to impress, given the United States international is looking to rival captain James Tavernier for the right-back slot.
Tavernier is certainly one of the first names on the team sheet, and Thursday night was Polster’s first chance to show what he was about. But Rangers fans were not impressed, with one supporter saying he was “terrible”.
