Rangers cruised to a 4-0 win over St. Joseph’s in Gibraltar in their first Europa League qualifying tie – but Gers fans were not impressed with veteran striker Jermain Defoe.
Defoe, 36, started the match over Alfredo Morelos, after the Colombian picked up a slight groin strain prior to the match. A frustrating first half saw Rangers fail to break St. Joseph’s down.
AFC Bournemouth loanee Defoe was caught offside multiple times by the part-timers defence, and missed a number of decent half chances as the Gers failed to make the breakthrough in the first half.

An early second-half goal from Ryan Jack relieved Rangers fans before new signing Sheyi Ojo produced an excellent curling effort to score on his debut. Defoe was substituted just after the hour mark, replaced by Morelos.
Borna Barisic made it three after an excellent display that saw the Croatian left-back also lay on an assist for Jack, before Morelos rounded off the performance – bundling the ball home from close range.
The Gers have a huge advantage ahead of next week’s second leg, but Rangers fans were underwhelmed with Defoe’s outing and made it clear on Twitter – with some stating that they believe Morelos is the better option.
