Jamie Murphy joined English League One side Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season in January and in just his second appearance on Saturday, he scored his second goal – prompting plenty of reaction from Rangers fans.
Murphy, 30, recovered from an anterior cruciate ligament problem earlier in the season but only managed two Scottish Premiership appearances for The Gers during the first half of the campaign. A loan move was needed.
The Scotland international got a move, to Nigel Clough’s Burton. He has started in excellent form, scoring a goal and creating another in a 2-2 draw against AFC Wimbledon on January 28 – before scoring in a 3-2 defeat to Rotherham on Saturday.

Murphy, who scored six and created 13 more in 29 games for Rangers, will be desperate to return to Rangers and have an impact – but given The Gers have plenty of options out wide, he will need to shine at Burton.
Indeed, the loan-to-buy signing of Ianis Hagi has pushed Murphy even further down the pecking order but Murphy has started life in Burton in sensational form. He has a contract at Rangers until the summer of 2021.
Rangers fans reacted on Twitter to Burton’s official Twitter account, which posted a video of the goal (above). Many have urged their club to bring him back to Ibrox, with one supporter Tweeting “swap” for “Ojo”.
