Jamie Murphy has taken to Twitter to confirm he has left League One side Burton Albion after an excellent, yet brief, loan spell with the third-tier club – and many Rangers fans have responded on Twitter.
Murphy, 30, had managed just two substitute appearances for Rangers during the first half of the season under Steven Gerrard. Ryan Kent, Sheyi Ojo, Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker were preferred.
It saw Murphy, who had scored six goals and created 13 more in 29 Rangers appearances, join Nigel Clough’s Burton on loan in January until the end of the season. He managed to play 10 times, before the global health crisis struck.
Scotland international Murphy proved to be a top signing for Burton, scoring an impressive seven goals in 10 appearances as well as laying on two assists. He posted a message to Burton fans, wishing them well.
Murphy – who joined Rangers for a bargain £1million from Brighton (Mail) – has entered the last 12 months of his contract at Rangers, with his current deal expiring in May 2021.
Indeed, his future remains up in the air as he faces competition from Kent, Ianis Hagi and others in the current Rangers side. But Gers fans responded to his Tweet by urging the player to stay at the club and help them stop Celtic’s pursuit of 10 in a row.
Murphy also posted the Tweet on Instagram, prompting a response from Josh Windass.
