Jake Hastie is reportedly set to leave Rangers on loan before Monday’s deadline and join English League One side Rotherham United until the end of the season – and Gers fans have reacted on Twitter to the news.

The Glasgow Evening Times have reported that Hastie could be off, just months after joining the club on a free transfer from Scottish Premierhsip outfit Motherwell. Hastie’s previous contract at Fir Park was set to expire in June.

The 20-year-old scored six goals in 15 games for Stephen Robinson’s side last season after returning to Fir Park following a loan spell at Alloa. It saw Rangers decide to sign him on a free transfer, but he is well down the pecking order.

Indeed, new signings Jordan Jones, Sheyi Ojo and Greg Stewart are all preferred. Scott Arfield is also being used out wide, while Ryan Kent could return to the club. Jamie Murphy and Eros Grezda are waiting in the wings.

The competition is enormous, with Steven Gerrard improving his squad’s strength in depth massively in the summer. With Hastie still learning, he needs game time to reach the next stage of his career. But he is unlikely to get that at Rangers.

Going out on loan to Rotherham is an excellent move for Hastie and it looks as though that is where the Scotland Under-21 ace is headed – to which Rangers fans reacted on Twitter.
