Rangers fans react as Jak Alwnick shines for St. Mirren on Sunday

Rangers earned a comfortable 3-0 win over St. Mirren on Sunday as Alfredo Morelos finally scored his first Scottish Premiership goals of 2020 – but Gers fans were impressed with goalkeeper Jak Alwnick, after he returned to Ibrox.

It was Morelos, 24, that played a huge part in the opening goal. The Colombian’s cross – or shot – was inadvertently deflected into the back of his own net by defender Conor McCarthy. Rangers should have scored a lot more.

Alnwick was in inspired form, denying Morelos on numerous occasions – as well as a stunning stop to prevent James Tavernier’s volley. Morelos finally got his goal on 69 minutes, heading home a corner from James Tavernier.

It ended a run of 10 games without a goal, his last coming against Hamilton in February in the Scottish Cup. Five minutes later he had two, tapping home after great work by Croatian left-back Borna Barisic.

Alnwick, 27, left Rangers in the summer to join St. Mirren after his contract with the Gers had expired – three and a half years after Mark Warburton lured him north of the border from English club Port Vale.

The stopper only ever played 17 times for Rangers, conceding 17 goals and keeping three clean sheets. Rangers fans were impressed by their former goalkeeper, with many even joking about bringing him back to Ibrox.
