Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal for AFC Bournemouth’s £750,000-rated defender Jack Simpson before the January transfer window deadline – and Gers supporters have responded on Twitter to the news.
Simpson, 24, has been linked with Rangers in the past but it appears that Gerrard is keen, once again, to lure him to Ibrox. His current deal expires in June – it is unclear if Rangers want to sign him this month for a fee, or for nothing in the summer.
The Scottish Sun report that Simpson – along with Bournemouth teammate Nnamdi Ofoborh – is a target for the Gers, and are closing in on deals for the pair. They also report that Cardiff had a bid of £750,000 accepted last week for Simpson.

Rangers currently boast Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, Filip Helander, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson as options at centre-back. But Katic remains out injured with a long-term problem, while Edmundson could leave the club.
Simpson is lacking in first-team exposure, having played 35 times for the senior side at the Vitality Stadium – largely under Celtic-linked Eddie Howe. He does, however, have an England Under-21 cap and has played 12 times for the Cherries this term.
Rangers fans have urged their club to sign the centre-back on Twitter, trusting Gerrard and Ross Wilson’s transfer acumen. One fan, though, thinks the interest and possible move to sign Simpson means Edmundson is off.
