Rangers have confirmed on Twitter that Josh McPake has agreed a three-year contract with the Gers that will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2022 – and Gers fans are delighted on Twitter.
The Daily Record claimed in June that Liverpool, AS Roma and Borussia Monchengladbach are all interested 17-year-old McPake, who starred for the club’s reserve or Under-20 side last season.
McPake had entered the final 12 months of his contract and that had alerted the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Roma, but Rangers have secured the wonderkid’s future by tying him down to a new deal.
The Scot even impressed during Rangers’ friendly win over Oxford United earlier this month, and the Gers youth account have now posted on Twitter that McPake has put pen to paper in a move that will delight supporters.
McPake has enormous competition ahead of him in the pecking order, with his natural position being out wide. New signings Sheyi Ojo and Jordan Jones impressed on Tuesday, while Greg Stewart and Jake Hastie are waiting for a chance.
The likes of Jamie Murphy, Daniel Candeias and others are also desperate for a chance and McPake certainly has his work cut out. But at 17 years of age, he has a huge future and Rangers fans reacted on Twitter to his new deal.
