It took Rangers until the 83rd minute to open the scoring in their first pre-season friendly of the summer, as they beat Partick Thistle 1-0. Travelling to newly-promoted Championship side Partick, Rangers were expected to cruise to victory. Cedric Itten scored, and Rangers fans applauded him.

Hours after completing a deal for his second signing of the summer in the form of ex-Sheffield United midfielder John Lundstram, Steven Gerrard took his team to Firhill. It was their first of four pre-season friendlies, with clashes against Arsenal, Tranmere and Blackpool coming later this month.

Gerrard named an inexperienced side initially, before making 10 changes at half time. One of those changes was the introduction of Switzerland international and £3million (Scotsman) signing Itten. He scored from close range with a powerful effort, after James Tavernier missed a penalty.

What are Rangers fans saying about Itten?

Itten, 24, endured a tricky first season at Ibrox following his move from St.Gallen. While he clocked up 38 appearances in all competitions under Gerrard, but of those 38, he started just nine games. Itten only completed 90 minutes on five occasions throughout the 2020-21 campaign.

He will be hoping for much more regular game time during the upcoming season, which begins with a league game against Livingston on July 31. Rangers also await their opponents in their third-round qualifying clash. Plenty of fans took to Twitter to praise Rangers star Itten.
