Rangers put a disappointing week behind them as Steven Gerrard’s men took apart Championship side Dunfermline in the League Cup. Fielding a side of fringe players, Gerrard watched his team run out 5-0 winners – leading 4-0 at the break. Rangers fans applauded John Lundstram.
It has been a tricky start to life for Lundstram, since he completed a move to Rangers from Sheffield United on a free transfer. Given he has been a regular in the Premier League over the last two seasons, the signing of Lundstram was seen as a real coup. But the 27-year-old has struggled.
Lundstram shines: What have Rangers said about his display against Dunfermline?
Starting in the defeats to Malmo (first leg) and then to Dundee United – Lundstram was dropped by Gerrard for the second leg. However, Gerrard chose to throw Lundstram into the starting line-up as Rangers were tasked with seeing off the challenge of second-tier side Dunfermline.
Lundstram opened the scoring with a left-footed strike from 10 yards after a good pull back from Calvin Bassey. Kemar Roofe got a brace, while Ianis Hagi and Scott Wright also got their name on the score sheet. Rangers fans were delighted with Lundstram and his display, following a poor start.
