Rangers booked their spot in the Europa League knockout rounds by drawing at home to Swiss outfit Young Boys on Thursday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out defender Borna Barisic for his brilliant performance.

Steven Gerrard’s side are through to the round of 32 after avoiding defeat at Ibrox, but will be unseeded for Monday’s draw after finishing second in their group.

The Light Blues managed to bounce back from the disappointment of the Scottish League Cup final defeat to Celtic from the weekend and were scintillating in the first-half against Young Boys.

Alfredo Morelos capitalised on a defensive error to put the Gers in front after half an hour, but the hosts created constant pressure and dominated the contest.

It was a bit more backs to the walls in the second period following a response from Young Boys and Barisic was unfortunate to stab in an own goal in the 89th minute to set up a tense finish, especially as Ryan Jack was sent off in stoppage time.

But overall Rangers deserved to progress from their group and their European adventure continues in the New Year.

A selection of Rangers supporters were blown away by Barisic for his contribution on the European stage and instantly forgave him for his own goal.

Aside from his mishap in the closing stages, the Croatia international put in an excellent display for his side and got the credit he deserves.

The 27-year-old left-back has gone from strength to strength during his time at Ibrox and has stepped it up during his second season with the Scottish giants.

He filled in well defensively for his time to frustrate Young Boys, while his energy going forward and pressure to win the ball back was immense.
