Rangers look set to appoint Ross Wilson as their new director of football. According to the Scottish Sun, the Ibrox club will announce his appointment on Monday, as a replacement for Mark Allen who left the club for family reasons last month.
The Southampton director of football operations has a fine reputation in the game, especially due to his role in bringing Virgil van Dijk to the South Coast from Rangers’ fierce rivals Celtic.
The Sun report that Rangers consider his appointment a ‘major coup’ and will hope he can help shape the club for years to come behind the scenes.
But Rangers fans might not like to see some of the reactions Southampton fans have had to the news.
Plenty of Saints supporters are actually happy to see that Wilson is on his way out of the club.

This is largely due to Southampton’s more recent track record in the transfer market. The club has signed the likes of Guido Carrillo, Wesley Hoedt and Sofiane Boufal for big money with little success.
Carrillo is on his second loan spell at Leganes after failing to ignite, Hoedt is on loan at Royal Antwerp after struggling with the pace of the Premier League whilst Boufal is trying to repair his career at St Mary’s after a difficult start and a loan spell at Celta Vigo.
Other names, such as Mario Lemina and Mohamed Elyounoussi, have also failed to impress.
Rangers fans will just hope that Wilson proves to be the big hit the club expects.
