Juan Alegria scored a brilliant hat-trick for Rangers B-Team on Wednesday night in the SPFL Trust Trophy – and Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter.

The second-string side came into the match with a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs. Barry Ferguson was in the dugout, as Alloa gaffer.

Alegria, 19, has spent some time on the sidelines with injury but he was thrusted into the starting line-up on Wednesday night at Recreation Park.

Alloa took the lead through Partick Thistle-loanee Mouhamed Niang, flicking the ball over a defender before slotting into the back of the net.

But Alegria – likened to Morelos largely because he is a Colombian striker signed from Finland – equalsied. Alew Lowry crossed, Alegria headed home.

Good work from Adam Devine made it two, finding Alegria at the back post. The striker rifled in a second, but Alloa found a second, inside 40 minutes.

Veteran Alan Trouten netted, but the winner and Alegria’s hat-trick goal came on 62 minutes. He tapped in, after a bit of a scramble in the box.

What are Rangers fans saying about Alegri after B-Team hat-trick?

The win sees Rangers progress into the quarter-finals of the competitions, where they will take on Peter Hartley’s Cove Rangers.

Alegria is certainly making a name for himself, though he is yet to be handed a chance in the senior side. That is, despite a lack of options up top.

Rangers have Morelos and Kemar Roofe, but Jermain Defoe is seemingly focusing more on the coaching side – and Cedric Itten has left on loan.

Fashion Sakala is yet to make an impact. Rangers fans discuss Alegria after his hat-trick – urging Steven Gerrard to give him a chance.
