Rangers fans impressed by John Lundstram despite defeat to Lyon at Ibrox
Rangers fell to a 2-0 defeat to Lyon at Ibrox in their first Europa League group game of the season – but Gers fans applauded John Lundstram.
The Gers came into the match with plenty of pre-match hysteria. Moussa Dembele did not travel, and BT Sport pundits were barred as a security risk.
It proved to be a frustrating night for Steven Gerrard’s men. Karl Toko Ekambi gave Lyon the lead in the first half with a beautiful strike.
Cutting inside after a couple of brilliant step overs, Ekambi curled a gorgeous effort into the far corner. Ryan Kent gave the ball away.
Kent was to blame for conceding possession for the second. On the edge of the area, Lyon won the ball back and worked it well.
Eventually, the ball found it’s way to Islam Slimani and the ex-Leicester target man bundled the ball home – via a touch from James Tavernier.
A disappointing night for Rangers against a Lyon side that have been poor this season. Peter Bosz’s side make it two from two.
What did Rangers fans think of Lundstram and his performance?
The 27-year-old summer signing from Sheffield United was handed just his eighth appearance for the Gers – after a tricky and much-criticised start.
Lundstram was strong on the ball, good in possession and accurate without his passing. One of their better players, with most struggling.
Rangers fans took to Twitter to praise Lundstram, as he continues to improve in a Rangers shirt the more he plays under Gerrard.
