Rangers fans feel Gerrard has dropped a selection hint with his comments about Hagi

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard made comments on Wednesday where he explained that he won’t solely be picking his XI against Celtic based on form – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter believe he’s dropped a major selection hint.

After winning 2-0 away to St Mirren in midweek, attention has now turned towards the colossus Old Firm derby on Saturday lunchtime against their bitter rivals.

The Gers are sat top of the Scottish Premiership table as it stands and have the edge in the title race, but they can take an even bigger step forward if they win at Ibrox on the weekend.

Rangers are currently 16 points above last season’s champions Celtic in the table, albeit the latter do have three games in hand to try claw back that deficit and they are aiming to win a 10th consecutive title.

A selection of Gers supporters on social media are convinced that Gerrard has revealed a piece of team news for the weekend.

There are some who believe the Rangers boss has revealed that Ryan Kent will be recalled to the starting XI to replace in-form Ianis Hagi.

Gerrard was speaking after Wednesday’s victory against St Mirren:

“Ianis has come back into the team and he’s contributing really well. I’ve got some big decisions to make for the weekend, but that’s where I want to be. People are pushing for places and that’s the way it is,” Gerrard said, as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account.

“But I’ll pick a team that I think can do a job against Celtic, not really go on who scored in the last game, or who is in form. I need obviously to pick a team that’s going to do the job against Celtic and there will be no sentiment, it’ll be the team that I think can get us the three points.”

There is a chance that both creative wide players Hagi and Kent could line up together against Celtic, but that would mean leaving out either Kemar Roofe or Alfredo Morelos.

Hagi is the in-form player that was selected to start against St Mirre and he’s contributed a goal and assist in his last two appearances, but Kent is a match-winner who is capable of turning up in big moments.
