Rangers fans are hoping Tony Weston is given a first-team chance under Giovani van Bronckhorst – after a brilliant hat-trick for the Under-19’s.
Starring in the UEFA Youth League against Septemvri Sofia, 18-year-old Weston helped Rangers maintain their 100% record in the competition.
Rangers need to beat Sofia to secure a play-off place to play in the UEFA Youth League knockout rounds after Christmas. They won 4-2.
Weston’s hat-trick has given them a brilliant chance of achieving that, with a second leg set to take place on December 8 back in Glasgow.
Brian Gilmour’s side will then take on one of the second-placed sides from the group stage, which runs alongside the Domestic Champions Path.
A side, consisting of the likes of Alex Lowry, Nicky Hogarth, Charlie Lindsay and Weston put Sofia to the sword – Cole McKinnon getting the other.
What are Rangers fans saying about Weston after brilliant hat-trick?
Weston opened the scoring, turning home a cross from Adam Devine after his initial effort had been well-saved. But Sofia came roaring back.
They only took a few minutes to go 2-1 up after 30 minutes. But McKinnon got an equaliser just before half-time – Devine getting another assist.
The second half saw Weston take the game by the scruff of the neck. A third assist from Devine found Weston at the back post on 50, slotting home.
Weston got his hat-trick as Sofia failed to defend a corner, bundling the ball home. Rangers fans are excited by Weston, hoping he gets a senior chance.
