Rangers fans drool over Glenn Middleton after brace against Celtic

Rangers’ reserve side earned a superb 2-0 win over Celtic’s second string on Monday afternoon in the SPFL reserve league thanks to a brace from Glenn Middleton – and fans applauded the youngster on Twitter.

Both sides were looking to win, with plenty of first teamers named in the starting line-ups. Celtic boasted Jack Hendry, Anthony Ralston, Mikey Johnston and Ewan Henderson.

Rangers, meanwhile, included goalkeeper Andy Firth, USA international Matt Polster and Middleton. It was the latter that proved the difference, as he scored both in the second half.

Kai Kennedy launched a superb counter attack after Stephen Kelly won the back. Kennedy fed Middleton, who smashed the ball into the net to break the deadlock.

Rangers and Middleton made it two with just moments left. Kelly was involved again, and he broke into the Celtic half before playing to Middleton who turned a Celtic defender inside out before doubling his and Rangers tally.

Ibrox supporters reacted to Middleton scoring a brace for Rangers on Twitter, with many applauding the former Norwich City star and some urging Steven Gerrard to recall him to the first team.

Middleton has failed to play for the senior side since February 16 as a substitute against St. Johnstone. He has made 27 appearances for Rangers this season, but only two since the turn of the year. Fans want him back in the senior side.
