Rino Gattuso is reportedly keen on a Rangers return as Steven Gerrard’s replacement at Ibrox – and it has been met with excitement by supporters.

Gattuso, 43, played 51 times for Rangers between 1997 and 1999 – going on to become a 2006 World Cup winner and a household name in Italy.

Indeed, in European football. A tough, aggressive midfielder. That personality has followed him into management, starring at numerous clubs.

Spells in his home country, Greece and Italy has most-recently included impressive spells as Milan and Napoli manager. He left Napoli last summer.

Gattuso almost joined Tottenham in the summer, but a fan backlash prevented a move. He remains without a job, and reports say he is keen.

The Record report that Gattuso would be open to joining Rangers – 22 years after leaving the club as a player. Gio van Bronckhorst is the favourite.

They sit at the top of the Premiership table, in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup and with a chance of Europa League football after Christmas.

Gattuso has shown he is an excellent manager in his first few spells. He also has that relationship with the club and it’s supporters.
