Rangers fans discuss performance of Leon Balogun during 6-1 win

Rangers established themselves as the team to beat in the Scottish Premiership with a clinical Sunday display.

The champions were far too good for Motherwell, with Graham Alexander’s team thrashed 6-1.

Bevis Mugabi had put fear into the Gers with an early goal but James Tavernier restored parity just prior to half-time.

Fashion Sakala then scored twice on either side of half-time to put the Light Blues into the ascendency.

In the second half, Rangers were in cruise control. A stunning strike from Glen Kamara, a hat-trick goal from Sakala and a Kemar Roofe goal put the seal on the win.

Despite some brilliant attacking football, it was a defensive display that caught the eye, with fans praising Leon Balogun.

The 33-year-old signed for the Gers in 2020 and has become an underrated player in Steven Gerrard’s team.

He has made 42 appearances for the team and is capable of playing anywhere across the back four.

This season he has been a regular in the team under Gerrard and played for over an hour against Motherwell.

On this performance, Rangers will take some stopping once again. This was a firm message to their rivals that they’re not in the mood to relinquish their title.

What did Rangers fans say about Balogun?

It’s fair to say they were desperately impressed. The experienced performer is turning into a fan favourite and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

Balogun will see his £14,000-a-week contract expire in the summer and despite his age, he’s probably deserving of another one.

Rangers fans were certainly impressed with his performance against Motherwell with many feeling that he’d gone under the radar somewhat.

Here is what was said on Twitter shortly after the game.
