Rangers crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 2-0 home defeat to Slavia Prague, finishing the match with just nine men – but Gers fans were full of praise for defender Nathan Patterson.
The Gers came into the match with a slight advantage over their last 16 opponents, after Filip Helander equalised with a header following Nicolae Stanciu’s opener. However, the Gers were somewhat lucky to earn a draw.
Things did not go to plan on Thursday night. The decision made by Steven Gerrard to play Leon Balogun at centre-back over Helander backfired – as Slavia reminded all why they are considered a dark horse in the competition.

Peter Olayinka opened the scoring with a header that beat Allan McGregor at the near post – one that the veteran goalkeeper might be somewhat disappointed by. Kemar Roofe came on in the second 45, with Rangers chasing.
But in a race for the ball with the goalkeeper, his high foot planted Ondrej Kolar in the face – and he was sent off. Balogun was also shown red for a second yellow card, after a poor first touch and Stanciu scored from the free-kick.
A disappointing loss for Rangers given the result from the first leg, but ultimately – it is defeat for Rangers. Gers fans, though, applauded the performance of 19-year-old defender Patterson, who came off after 78 minutes.
