Rangers cruised into the third round of the Betfred Cup on Sunday evening with a 4-0 away win over Falkirk – and Gers supporters have discussed the performance of playmaker Ianis Hagi on Twitter, following the win.
Steven Gerrard made seven changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Benfica during Thursday’s Europa League clash at Ibrox, but that failed to stop the Gers’ impressive run of form. Rangers picked up an 18th clean sheet, in just their 23rd game of the season.
Rangers fielded a defence that only boasted on change – with Calvin Bassey replacing Leon Balogun. Connor Goldson, James Tavernier and Borna Barisic all started and that gave Gerrard’s men the platform to shine in attack.

A long ball from Goldson put Jermain Defoe through on goal in just the sixth minute, and he finished with aplomb. Cedric Itten’s header was spilled and Bassey tapped hom to make it 2-0. It was 3-0 at the break, thanks to Borna Barisic.
The Croatian ace curled a brilliant free-kick into the net, before James Tavernier netted his 14th goal of the season – with a beautiful volley from a Barisic cross. Hagi lasted the entire 90 minutes, his first start since the 1-0 win over Lech Poznan.
Hagi was unable to add to his eight assists this season – and many Gers supporters reacted to his performance against Falkirk. Some feel as though the £19,000-a-week winger (Sport.Ro) is “trying too hard”.
