Rangers fans got a glimpse of Fashion Sakala for the first time since his move from Belgian side KV Oostende on Saturday. Steven Gerrard’s side drew 0-0 with Premier League outfit Brighton at Ibrox. Sakala came off the bench to play the last 30 minutes, and Rangers fans like what they see.
In the first of a double header that sees Rangers take on Brighton and then Real Madrid on Sunday, the Gers drew 0-0 with the Seagulls. Rangers had chances throughout, Cedric Itten robbing the goalkeeper only to see his shot blocked by Shane Duffy. Duffy, of course, has returned after a loan at Celtic.
Calvin Bassey and Leon Balogun had headers saved, while Itten – who has done well during pre-season – remained a threat. New signing John Lundstram hit the bar in the second half, but it was to no avail as the scoreline read 0-0 at full-time. Sakala got 30 minutes during the match.
What did Rangers fans think of Sakala?
There is plenty of hype surrounding Sakala. The 24-year-old joins from Oostende on a free transfer after scoring 16 goals and creating five more in 3 games for the Belgian side last term. He has bags of pace, and that also allows him to play out wide. Naturally, though, he is a striker.
Rangers fans gave their thoughts on Sakala on Saturday afternoon and evening as he made his first appearance. Despite the heat, the five-time Zambia international was draped in a long-sleeved shirt and many alluded to that. Others were impressed, with one fan saying he looks “very sharp”.
