Borna Barisic scored his first ever goal for Croatia on Thursday night during a 2-1 win over Azerbaijan in just his fifth cap for his country – and Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter.
The 26-year-old has broken into the Croatia set-up despite being in and out of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side due to injury and the form of Andy Halliday this season.
He made his fifth appearance for the World Cup finalists on Thursday night as they looked to get underway with three points against minnows Azerbaijan. But it was not as easy as first anticipated.
Azerbaijan took the lead after 19 minutes, but Barisic equalised just before half-time. He capitalised on a corner that the goalkeeper chose to avoid, prodding a loose ball into the net from all of three yards out.
Croatia edged past their opponents as striker Andrej Kramaric got the winner with just 11 minutes to play. But it was Barisic’s quick thinking and excellent positioning that got Croatia back into the game.
Rangers fans reacted to Barisic’s display on Twitter, with many congratulating the left-back for his first international goal. While some fans asked why Barisic could not play like this in the Light Blue of Rangers.
Excellent. Hopefully this might give him a boost of confidence and help him push on ???⚪️?

Great player trying to find his feet, under appreciated and adjusting to a difficult league. No doubt will come good.
