Rangers fans applaud Jordan Jones as Northern Ireland win

Jordan Jones played 80 minutes of Northern Ireland’s 2-0 win over Estonia on Thursday night in Group C of Euro 2020 qualifying – and Rangers fans were mightily impressed with his efforts.

Jones, 24, will become a Rangers player at the end of the season. He has signed a pre-contract agreement with Steven Gerrard’s side, with his Kilmarnock deal ending in the summer.

Middlesbrough-born Jones has been a regular part of Killie’s side this season. The fleet-footed winger has clocked up 34 appearances in all competitions for Stevie Clarke’s side, scoring four and creating four more.

But it his direct running that is most appealing and it was on full show on Thursday night during an excellent 2-0 win. Goals from Niall McGinn and Steven Davis earned an excellent three points.

Jones was given a rapturous reception after Michael O’Neill opted to take him off with 10 minutes to play. The winger made things happen and was unlucky not to score in the first half.

He should have had an assist after his excellent cross was somewhat inexplicably headed over the bar by Paddy McNair. His turn and shot on 39 minutes agonisingly went wide.

Rangers fans watched on with Jones alongside Steven Davis and Kyle Lafferty. The majority were hugely impressed with his efforts and are now looking forward to him joining in the summer.
