Rangers defender James Tavernier should snub reported Leicester interest

Rangers defender James Tavernier has reportedly attracted interest from Leicester City.

According to TEAMtalk, the 27-year-old is being targeted by the Foxes during this summer transfer window.

Ex-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is now the manager at the King Power Stadium and will know all about the Rangers players from his time in Scotland.

Tavernier is the captain at Ibrox and the senior ace is one of the most important players at the club.

The right-back is part of a defence that has shown signs of improvement under Steven Gerrard, while going forward he’s such an asset to the team.

He scored a remarkable 17 goals and supplied 20 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions in the recent season.

It’s understandable that his form has attracted interest from the Premier League and he does deserve a crack in the English top-flight.

But Leicester would be a bad move for the player and he should avoid them if he considers a Leicester exit.

Tavernier is guaranteed football at Rangers right now and has the chance to be part of a special Gerrard team that will hope to challenge Celtic next year for the title.

But at Leicester the full-back would surely be stuck on the bench at first and it looks difficult to see him breaking into the team.

Leicester have Ricardo Periera as their right-back right now and he’s just enjoyed a brilliant first season in English football.

Pereira, 25, looks a long-term fix for the English side moving forward and it would be extremely difficult to budge him.
