George Edmundson has been one of the new arrivals at Rangers this summer and he’s made a positive start to life at Ibrox already.
The defender joined the Gers for around £700,000 (BBC) from Oldham Athletic. and the early signs are that it could turn out to be a bargain fee.
He’s been thrown into the deep end by manager Steven Gerrard and come through with flying colours.
Edmundson completed 90 minutes on Thursday night in the 2-0 win over Progres Niederkorn in the first leg of a Europa League second round qualifier.
The colossus centre-back showcased how effective he can be in playing out from the back and he hit some excellent long-range passes over the pitch.
He also looked dependable defensively and is beginning to build a decent understanding alongside teammate Connor Goldson in the heart of defence.
Edmundson has only played two competitive senior games for the Light Blues, but he appears to know his game well and isn’t overawed by his move to Scotland.
The 21-year-old was playing in League Two last season with Oldham Athletic and he stepped onto the European stage with relate ease.
There are of course going to be much sterner tests ahead for him, but he’s a physical defender that should only improve under Gerrard and could turn out to be a masterstroke bargain if he can build on his strong start.
