Rangers defender Borna Barisic makes claim about his form

Rangers defender Borna Barisic has suggested, in comments reported by the Daily Record, that he feels that he is currently playing the best football of his career.

Barisic has been superb in the opening weeks of the Scottish Premiership season. It had appeared that the Croatian could be on the way out of Ibrox after a poor first campaign with the Gers.

But he remained with Steven Gerrard’s squad after the transfer deadline passed. And Rangers have certainly benefitted from the 26-year-old sticking around.

The Light Blues top the table with the best defensive record so far this term. And Barisic has also scored twice in the league, including the winner in August’s clash with St Mirren.

And with the full-back winning a lot of his doubters over, he made a big claim regarding the form that he is currently showing.

“I’m really enjoying my second season at Rangers. I like how this team play football. In my first season, I had a lot of setbacks from injuries and I had all sorts of problems,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“But I’ve got over them and I feel I am in the form of my life and playing the best football of my career.

“As far as my fitness and the way I am playing, I can honestly say this is the best I have played. It helps that I am playing for a really good team with a great manager.”

It is a big boost for Rangers to have Barisic playing so well. Not only do the Gers look stronger defensively with a left-footer on that side of the back four, but they also have another dangerous player going forward.

Barisic has shown that he can be lethal from free-kicks. That has already won Rangers three points this season. And it would be no surprise if his strike against Hamilton was not the last time this season that goalkeepers were picking the ball out of their net after Barisic has had an attempt on goal.
