Rangers decision not to sign Jason Cummings permanently looking justified

In the summer Rangers decided not to pursue the permanent signature of Jason Cummings. The former Hibernian striker had joined the club on loan after failing to find form at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The player wanted the move and, according to the Daily Record, would have cost £1 million to be made a permanent fixture at the Scottish side.

Rangers’ new boss Steven Gerrard then decided against making the move and Cummings was off the table.

Instead, he headed to join fellow Scot Steve Evans at League One side Peterborough United.

With a point to prove he started with a bang. Cummings scored six goals in his first five games in League One.

However, his form since then has plummeted.

His last goal in the league came in August, during a 5-1 win against Plymouth Argyle. The emergence of Ivan Toney has not helped him but Cummings is now struggling to get in the team for the League One club.

Despite two goals in two EFL Trophy appearances, his record of eight goals in 27 appearances will not have Rangers fans green with envy.

It seems letting Cummings pass was a decent decision.
