Rangers could repeat Old Firm rivals transfer success with Joe Aribo deal

Rangers are looking like winning the race for Joe Aribo this summer. The Charlton Athletic man is out of contract at The Valley this summer and Ibrox looks like his next location.

Despite the London Evening Standard reporting a renewed attempt by Charlton to keep him in London the Glasgow side will be confident they have their man.

The report also divulged just how much Rangers will be paying for the player.

Compensation is due despite his contract expiration. However, as he will be crossing the Scottish border, it would not be as much as if an English team made the swoop. The Evening Standard report it should set Rangers back a measly £250,000.

That is a bargain for a talented young midfielder in today’s market and it could see Rangers repeat a trick their Old Firm rivals pulled off in a similar deal.

Celtic signed Moussa Dembele from Fulham in similar circumstances back in 2016. As reported by My London, the compensation fee was around £500,000. After two stellar seasons in Glasgow, Dembele left for Lyon last summer.

As reported by BBC Sport, Celtic received £19.7 million for the player and with a sell-on clause included they could still be set for more cash windfall.

Rangers could easily look at a similar valuation for Aribo down the line if he grows into the player many expect him to at Ibrox.

Whilst Rangers fans will hope he goes on to be a long-term Ibrox star, making £19 million in two years off the 22-year-old would also be welcomed.
