Rangers manager Steven Gerrard should consider recalling Lassana Coulibaly against Villarreal on Thursday.

The Light Blues are gunning for three points in order to give themselves a good chance of qualifying for the Europa League knockout stages.

Standing in their way of victory though is arguably the best side in their group.

Villarreal top Group G but only by one point, with Spartak Moscow second and Rangers third but on the same number of points.

Rangers put in a spirited display against the Spanish outfit on matchday one, and came away with a 2-2 draw.

This time they’ll be hoping to go one better, but Gerrard needs to get his team selection right.

Should Lassana Coulibaly be recalled?

Villarreal possess a number of attacking talents.

The likes of Santi Cazorla and Pablo Fornals are the danger men for the Spaniards and really have the potential to hurt Rangers.

While Rangers must go for the win, they also must be mindful of such players.

Bringing in Lassana Coulibaly might be a good idea, as the Malian is tenacious and energetic.

He could be a good counter against the metronomic Cazorla.

Rangers can’t let the ex-Arsenal man find his rhythm, and Coulibaly could be ideal for disrupting his game.

He hasn’t been in stellar form of late, but his defensive discipline could then allow the likes of Ryan Jack/Ovie Ejaria and Scott Arfield to bomb forward to help Alfredo Morelos.
