Rangers boss Steven Gerrard raves about Joe Aribo after Ibrox display on Thursday

Rangers secured three crucial points at Ibrox on Thursday night against Brondby – and Steven Gerrard has raved about Joe Aribo on BT Sport.

Aribo, 25, has been a crucial part of the Rangers side under Gerrard – clocking up 108 appearances in all competitions since joining in 2019.

In those games, he has had a hand in 36 goals – scoring 19 and creating 17. While starring at Rangers, he has also become first choice for Nigeria.

On Thursday, he started in the middle of the park – alongside Steven Davis and John Lundstram. The midfield dominated, as did Rangers.

Speaking after the match, Gerrard shared what he told Aribo behind the scenes and even suggested that it might be difficult to keep hold of him.

“I never said stand up and be counted, because he always gives you that – he’s a great kid,” Gerrard said. “He wants to learn, he wants to grow.

“What I’ve said to Joe, is you’re a better player when you play angry. You’re 6ft 3in, flex your muscles, you’re a big strong lad. Leave it on a few.

“When he does that, he’s a joy to watch. I thought his first 45 minutes was outstanding. If he can do that regularly, we’ll be lucky to keep him.”

Gerrard on Aribo: Could Rangers star leave Ibrox in coming months?

Premier League clubs have been linked with a ton of Rangers players. James Tavernier, Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent, Nathan Patterson and more.

But delve a little deeper into Rangers performances and it must be said, this season especially, that Aribo has been one of the club’s better players.

Aribo can create goals, chances out of nothing. The £20k-a-week star’s (Sun) brilliant dribbling, twinned with his strength, makes him a superb option.

An incredible signing from Charlton, on a free – albeit, a compensation fee. If he becomes more consistent, Premier League clubs will be keen.
