Rangers and West Ham United are set to be amongst the clubs who will miss out on signing Dion McGhee the summer, with the Daily Mail reporting that the 19-year-old is planning to join a club in Portugal.
The Gers looked at signing the teenager following his departure from Manchester United when his contract expired.

Meanwhile, the Mail has also suggested that the Hammers and Derby County also wanted the attacking midfielder. There was also interest from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
However, the Mail has suggested that Porto or Benfica are set to win the race for McGhee’s signature.

TBR View: Blow for Rangers, but Steven Gerrard not lacking options
Given the stature of the clubs chasing McGhee, it does appear to be a blow for the likes of Rangers and West Ham to miss out.
The Gers do however, already have a number of players who can play in that attacking midfield role. Ianis Hagi has been brought back on a permanent basis, while the likes of Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Scott Arfield can also be incredibly dangerous in that area.
It would have arguably been a major statement if Rangers had been able to sign McGhee. But Gerrard may argue that missing out does not deal a huge setback to his plans.
