Reported Glasgow Rangers and Celtic target Thomas Robert has been tipped by his agent to follow in Andrew Robertson’s footsteps and become a top player worth “millions” in future amid alleged interest from Ibrox and Parkhead.
In the summer, Rangers and Celtic were both touted as possible destinations for the 20-year-old, the son of former PSG, Newcastle and France winger Laurent Robert.
After impressing for Montpellier in the UEFA Youth League, English outlet Chronicle Live claimed that he alerted both Neil Lennon’s Celtic and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, plus Newcastle south of the border.
Robert made a somewhat unexpected move in the end, linking up with League One side Airdrieonians, but he has done so well that he’s already being tipped for a move elsewhere, with the Light Blues and the Hoops both reportedly after him again.
And Paul Tait, the player’s agent, claims both Rangers and Celtic have been keeping tabs on the Frenchman, with several clubs already in contact.
“There are guys like, for example, Andy Robertson is at Queen’s Park and goes to Dundee United then goes south and ends up at Liverpool,” Tait told the Daily Record. “I believe he can follow a similar route.
“Rangers and Celtic have been watching him because I believe they don’t want to miss out before the English clubs swoop in.
“Thomas is worth a gamble for a few hundred thousand, because when he goes to the next level we will be talking millions. There is a lot of interest and we are waiting to see what comes up for him.”
Earlier this week, Robert said the prospect of playing for a big club like Rangers or Celtic – or an English Premier League team – would be a “dream”, and there’s no doubt that Airdrie is currently a stepping stone for the young attacker.
As decent as he looks, he hasn’t played many games for Aidrie just yet, so it remains to be seen whether the Light Blues or the Bhoys will splash the cash – that said, his agent is doing a good job talking up his client’s credentials.
