Rangers are set to receive a bid of £16 million from Marseille for influential striker Alfredo Morelos, according to The Scottish Sun.
Boss Steven Gerrard will look to strengthen his squad in the summer and losing his 29-goal talisman wouldn’t be ideal. He could, however, look to cash in and use the money to bolster his own ranks.
It would represent good business for Rangers if they can get £16 million for Morelos. It was reported by Liga Deportivo back in August that the French outfit had a £5 million bid rejected by the Gers.
A doubt has been cast this season over Morelos’ discipline. The Colombia international has been sent off five times this season, and that might play into Gerrard’s thinking when it comes to deciding whether or not to sell.
Morelos is clearly a talented player and 29 goals would be a tough task to replace. At 22-years-old, however, the striker might think that now is the right time to head to a top European league.
Rangers would be able to get a more than adequate replacement for Morelos with the money they recoup. Jermain Defoe currently in the Gers ranks will fancy getting at least 25 in the Scottish Premiership next season too.
If Gerrard is to end Celtic’s dominance he will need to attract some stellar recruits and £16 million added to the kitty would enhance those possibilities.
