Rangers ‘languishing’ because of Alfredo Morelos, according to Chris Sutton

Celtic legend Chris Sutton says that Alfredo Morelos is to blame for Rangers ‘languishing’ behind the Hoops in the race for the title.

The man who scored 63 goals in 130 games for the Hoops told the Daily Record that the Gers striker has let manager Steven Gerrard down badly, following his fourth red card of the season.

Gerrard’s men have now slipped eight points behind their fierce rivals.

Sorely missed

Rangers have just one win from six when Morelos has been missing and drew another blank at the weekend.

It is fair to say that the Gers would be far better placed to challenge Celtic were it not for Morelos’ ill-discipline.

Sutton told the Daily Record: “In many ways, he may go up in fans’ estimation because he wasn’t there yesterday and you can see the impact he makes when he is on the pitch.

“But I blame Morelos for Rangers’ season and where they’re languishing. “The influence he has on the field is great for Rangers but he can’t control himself.”

Morelos has netted 23 goals for Rangers this season and he is clearly one of the very best marksmen in the Scottish Premiership.

He is a vital component of Gerrard’s team and he will be left wondering what might have been as Celtic edge closer to another title.

Sutton believes that he owes his manager big style.

He continued: “You look yesterday, you look against Dundee, you look at other games against Aberdeen this season where he has been sent off twice and that’s nine points they have dropped with no Morelos.

“That’s the reason Rangers are where they are – he has let his manager down.”

The Ibrox-based club have certainly improved on last season under Gerrard.

Ultimately, they look like being left to curse their inability to score goals in the absence of their influential goalscorer.
