Rangers defender Joe Worrall should take a vote of confidence from reports that suggest Steven Gerrard is not prepared to lose him in January at any cost.

The 21-year-old is on a season-long loan at Ibrox from Nottingham Forest, but the English championship side have suffered an injury to key centre-back Michael Dawson.

According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer blog (5 December, 10:36am), Gerrard will lock any attempt from Forest to take him back to the City Ground in the New Year.

The report details that there is no release clause in Worrall’s £500,000 season-long loan deal that means it can be cut short.

Worrall is certainly in favour with the Rangers manager and it’a a good sign that he could play an important role in the second half of the season in Scotland.

Worrall is one of four main centre-backs competing for a spot in the Rangers XI, but he’s been involved in some key matches already.

The no-nonsense enforcer has starred in four of the five Europa League group stages matches so far and their only defeat in the competition came in his absence.

He is a towering defender that is certainly improving from regular game time with the Light Blues and he should have confidence to continue on the same path.
