Old Firm gap remains vast

Of course a defeat by one goal is better than a four goal loss, but there was really little comparison to the respective performances. Rangers may have been able to keep Celtic at bay far better, but there can be no doubt that the Bhoys were the better side, and if Celtic were able to capitalise on their earlier chances, this may well have proved another academic affair.

They had 24 shots on the Rangers goal, whereas Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was comparatively left with very little to do. It is a boost for Rangers in that they were able to shut Celtic out by any means necessary, but they still have a way to go before matching the level of their old rivals once again.
