Rangers’ Number One jersey up for grabs
Before the Hampden Park clash, Wes Foderingham was undisputed Number One in goal at Ibrox, with his understudy Matt Gilks, formerly of Blackpool during their year in the Premier League, only having featured against lower league opposition. After doing well when tested against the highest quality opposition Scotland has to offer, it has become apparent that Gilks may be a serious contender to usurp Foderingham’s place between the sticks.
Foderingham has been one of Rangers’ more consistent performers this season, but Gilks does deserve an opportunity in the league to prove himself, but it is a case of whether or not manager Mark Warburton is prepared to offer him that given the form of former Swindon stopper Foderingham. He hasn’t however stood out to the extent Gilks did against their great rivals, and as their manager searches for a winning formula in the league, giving Gilks an opportunity to shine as their last line of defence may be at the forefront of his mind.
