Ramsey should choose Everton if a Merseyside battle emerges for his signature

Liverpool have been the front-runners to sign Aaron Ramsey for quite some time now, but recent developments suggest a Merseyside battle may be forming in pursuit of the Welshman.

The Sun report that Everton are ready to offer the playmaker a bumper package to join Marco Silva’s Goodison Park revolution.

Ramsey is valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, but will be available on a free transfer this summer. He should have opportunities from across the country; but if his choice becomes binary between the blue and red half of Merseyside, he should choose Everton.

It may seem foolish to turn his back on Champions League football, but how much would he actually play at Anfield?

Big-money summer signing Fabinho is struggling badly for gametime, Ramsey’s former Arsenal team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will come back from injury and Adam Lallana is still to come back to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s myriad midfield options.

At Everton, Ramsey would be a major player. He could work in tandem with Gylfi Sigurdsson, and Silva would have two of the league’s best goalscoring midfielders at his disposal.

For too long at Arsenal, Ramsey has been an awkward fit. Everton would give him the freedom to play that he needs, as part of a hugely-impressive project.
