Arsenal and Chelsea have been busy in the latter stages of transfer deadline day, with incomings and outgoings on the cards for both teams.

Over the past few hours, speculation regarding the Gunners’ pursuit of Blues ace Raheem Sterling has reached fever pitch.

And now, according to Sports Zone, there has been a significant breakthrough which should see the deal on the home straight.

Arsenal breakthrough with Chelsea for Raheem Sterling

Sports Zone have claimed on X that Sterling is now “to join Arsenal” from Chelsea, with a medical scheduled in a “few minutes for him”.

As things stand, Arsenal and Chelsea are still working to find an agreement for Sterling, who is set to “reduce his current salary”.

In addition, Sterling’s move from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates Stadium will put the West Londoners in a position to finalise the Jadon Sancho deal, added the report.

Why Sterling to Arsenal is a great deal

This has been a very fast-moving situation, but now it looks like the deal is on the home straight.

With just over an hour and a half until the transfer window shuts, time is of the essence for Arsenal, Chelsea and Sterling.

Hopefully it won’t be long before speculation becomes even more concrete and this move gets over the line.

Sterling will be a great signing for the Gunners, as he is a world-class winger with considerable experience at the highest level.

Arsenal have been looking to bolster their attacking ranks and, with Reiss Nelson now closing in on a loan move to Ipswich, it’ll free up a slot in their squad which Sterling could be set to fill.

The 82-cap England international can play on the left flank, offer competition and cover for Bukayo Saka on the right and even play up front if needed.

All in all, it’s a deal which makes perfect sense for Arsenal, and the next 90 minutes should bring forth more exciting developments if all goes well.
