Liverpool take on Tottenham in a first-against-second clash at Anfield on Wednesday night with both sides seemingly looking the most likely to form a title charge – and both Luis Garcia and Rafael van der Vaart have posted throwbacks on social media.

Both sides have been excellent this season, despite adopting different styles. Liverpool have maintained a title challenge, despite numerous long-term injuries that have left them with a centre-back crisis – as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain sidelined.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has changed Tottenham. He has made the north London side much more defensive, but breathtaking on the counter attack – a style that recently saw them cruise past Arsenal in the north London derby.

Now, the two sides go head to head with Liverpool only second on goal difference. Both Liverpool icon Garcia and Spurs hero van der Vaart posted throwback goals on social media – ahead of what is a mouthwatering clash.

Liverpool have a whole host of injuries. Joining Gomez and van Dijk on the injury table is Diogo Jota, Konstantinos Tsimikas, Thiago, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri. Joel Matip is a doubt, as is Naby Keita.

Tottenham are in a much better position when it comes to injury. Japhet Tanganga is out with a shoulder problem, while Erik Lamela continues to fight his way back to full fitness. Gareth Bale missed Sunday’s draw against Palace through illness.

Liverpool will be buoyed by recent form between the two sides, though, having won the last five games – including the Champions League final. Spurs, though, are a different animal this season.
